Michigan State University Student Receives Scholarship from Lee Steinberg Law Firm

    qualifications and sharing a story of personal determination regarding her
    struggles seeking U.S. citizenship.

To help encourage and support the next generation of Michigan law students and lawyers, the Lee Steinberg, P.C. Law Scholarship is offered each year to an undergraduate student who has law school plans in their future. The Law Offices of Lee Steinberg is excited to announce that Ms. Shiksha Sneha has been chosen as the recipient of the 2019 scholarship. Sneha is from Ann Arbor and currently an undergraduate student at Michigan State University, majoring in Political Theory and Public Policy. Ms. Sneha moved from India to the United States at age 11.

“One of our core tenets at The Lee Steinberg Law Firm is helping the community both in and out of the courtroom. Each year, we are excited to do that by helping fund the legal education of future law students through a scholarship,” said attorney Eric Steinberg. “Compassion, smarts, and being able to provide caring support are all necessary attributes an attorney should have when fighting and winning legal cases. Congratulations to all of the Scholarship applicants who possess these qualities and more. We especially noted those characteristics in Ms. Sneha and are excited to support her growth as a student and pre-professional interested in practicing law.”

A group of legal professionals reviewed this year’s scholarship applications and selected the winner based on academic merit and an essay response to the simple question, “What do you hope to accomplish with a law degree?” Reviewers felt that Ms. Sneha’s reply was both timely and her story inspiring. She exceeded all of the firm’s desired qualifications, ultimately earning her this $1,000 scholarship. Ms. Sneha is currently residing on a Visa while seeking to obtain citizenship, a financially and emotionally difficult process. Immigrant visas are issued to foreign citizens who intend to live and work permanently in the United States, according to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. 

“I am an immigrant. A legal immigrant. Yet, my whole life in the United States, I have lived in trepidation,” said Sneha. “However, despite it all, I remain a strong believer of the American dream and that with time and perseverance, I too can achieve my goal of becoming a lawyer and help others battling immigration troubles.”

Scholarship applicants must possess these three qualities to be eligible:

  1. Applicant must be a current undergraduate
    student enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States.
  2. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA.
  3. In addition to their essay, the applicant must
    also include a copy of their current college transcript.

“With a law degree, I can continue to work hard and help craft policy that will drastically change a flawed system,” Sneha continued. “I want to help others navigate the immigration complexities that my family had to do alone. Application information for the next round of Lee Steinberg, P.C. Law Scholarship Program will be provided in 2020.
